The Art of

David Ciampichini

Mr. Ciampichini has an M.A in English and art from Rutgers University.

Ever since a young age, Mr. Ciampichini has had a mystic relationship with St. Joan. During his first year at collage, David had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Ingrid Bergman who personally autographed and praised his portrait of her.

"Joan of Arc. Shaman & Mystic"

David was inspired by St. Joan's mystic connection with nature and the numinous.

"St. Joan-Patron of Soldiers"

Mr. Ciampichini wished to support the pain and labor of our troops by portraying Joan as their protectoress and leader.

"St. Joan-Warrior"

Inspired by the famous sculpture, the artist tried to capture Joan's militant spirit for our tumultuous time.

"St. Joan of Peace"

By David Ciampichini

My inspiration for this assemblage sculpture is the reputed portrait of St. Joan, known as "The Head of St. Maurice." I brought a more realistic facial color to this reproduction as well as removing the helmet, thus exposing the historically accurate 15th century male hairstyle worn by St. Joan.

Tradition tells us that she had dark hair and eyes as seen on the sculpture. Over her armor St. Joan wears a lush red surcoat strewn with golden fleur-de-lis. The historical Joan was known to have worn fine military attire.

I title the portrait "St. Joan of Peace" and as such she holds a dove symbolic of God, The Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Peace. She is in prayerful union with the spirit, venerating Him, praying for peace.

It was noted at Joan's trial of Nullification that as our beloved Saint was dying a dove was seen flying from the flames.

My prayer for all who will see and possess this sculpture is: "May you recognize her historical and her deeply spiritual passion for the Spirit of Peace and Justice.
